Synopsis: Any film by Robert Altman is worth watching, and Gosford Park is, on top of this fact, one of his best films in recent years. Brilliant with ensemble casts and creating a sense of the time and place his characters live, he here tackles the British class system, in the guise of a murder mystery set in the 1930s. A knight and his wife are part of the wealthy set in England, and they have invited several friends and relatives to their mansion for a weekend. Among them are a stuffy old aunt, an actor cousin and an American film producer there to conduct research. Countering this motley crew are the mansion's staff, including a self-important butler, a couple of footmen, a valet, a housekeeper and kitchen staff. And the guests have brought their own servants as well, people who are not expected to speak, but silently obey. But they observe too, and gossip runs rampant. So when one of the guests turn up dead, the ante is raised and all the house's inhabitants are forced to mingle in a bid to uncover what has been going on behind closed doors - before the police do.
