When the castle's rightful heirs arrive in the form of two American brothers, Neil (Blucas) and Simon (Thomas) and their mother (Cusack), Cassandra's parents see it as a chance to improve the family's fortunes (since they're essentially squatters) by marrying off the two girls to the two wealthy young men. Cassandra finds herself conflicted, however, when she actually falls in love with Simon, even though he's engaged to Rose (in addition to being attracted to both Neil and the family's young servant, Stephen)
